Henryk Wieniawski, Polonaise brillante
for violin and piano, PWM 11232
One of Wieniawski’s most famous works published in a source-critical edition. The Polonaise in A major is an extended concert piece, typically virtuosic, with the solo violin playing a decidedly dominant role. The piano part here is primarily an accompaniment, emphasizing the harmonic basis. Only in the middle section are there extensive passages based on a dialogue between the two instruments.
